Sickness and school

This is the first time Emily has been sick for more than a couple of days. It was really rough on the poor little bean. She does take her medicine quite well most of the time though. We had to give her a bath in the middle of the night Oct 1 to bring down her fever from 103-104 (ear thermometers aren’t as accurate as heinie ones, but I don’t like to use heinie thermometers–my own memories are clear on that).
She’s having seperation anxiety, really for the first time. i’d thought she’d had it before, but it was mild compared to this, very mild. She loves school, but the last two weeks when I drop her off she cries and says ‘no mommy, stay mommy.” It’s heartbreaking. I talked to her teachers and they said once she gets inside she’s very busy and adjusts just fine. They believe it to be a regression since she was ill for nearly three weeks. She only missed a day of school (the flu has several relapses built into it–you think you are getting better one day and then the next you are out) but she’s decided she doesn’t like me to leave at all. Which is heartwarming for me, but I’d rather, for her sake, she didn’t feel this way.
We got her first report from schools and it was stellar. My little bean is energetic, very bright, sweet and empathetic. She’s also learning to observe situations instead of just jumping in–she watched her new little friend paint for two days before she tried herself. She’s also learning to approach quieter children more gently, which is wonderful. Her teachers say she is “a joy.” We are so very proud.
We have pictures on the fridge now. I look at them and think how long I’ve been waiting just for that.
Now for some pictures:
YOu might not be able to see it here: but Bartleby looks utterly shocked by what Bean is doing.
